Codes of Conduct
Coaches' Code of Conduct
- Be reasonable in your
demands on young players' time and energy
- Teach your players to
support the rules of the game and never to argue with the referee
- Avoid over-playing
the talented players - give all players an equal opportunity whenever possible
- Never ridicule a
player for making a mistake or yell abuse from the sideline
- Be positive at all
times
- Respect the advice of
trained medical staff as to when a child should play soccer
- Do not smoke or drink
alcohol in front of young players
- Make every attempt to
gain accreditation
- Dress in the
appropriate manner
- Avoid language that
is derogatory of race or gender
- Be a positive role
model for your sport and athletes
Parents' Code of Conduct
- Never ridicule any
child for making a mistake
- Remember, children
play soccer for their enjoyment, not yours
- Children learn by
example, so encourage good play by both teams
- Do not abuse or
ridicule the referee - without them, there may be no game
- Recognise the value
and importance of volunteer coaches. They give their time and take care of your children
freely
- Support your child's
performance, rather than the final score - this allows your child to have realistic and
achievable goals
- Avoid derogatory
language based on gender or race
- Take an interest in
your child's game. It is important to support them in a positive and caring manner
- Encourage skill
development over winning at all costs
Administrators' Code of Conduct
- Involve
players in the planning, evaluation and decision making related to the competition
- Ensure that there are
equal opportunities for participation in soccer, regardless of ability, size gender,
disability or ethnic origin
- Ensure that the
equipment and facilities are safe for those participating in soccer
- Ensure that the
rules, equipment, playing and training time take into consideration the age and maturity
level of players
- Ensure that your
coaches are accredited and have the opportunity to gain accreditation
- Ensure that
children's soccer is based on enjoyment and not geared towards extrinsic reward
- Ensure that referees
are accredited and given support towards accreditation
- Ensure that all
participants in soccer receive a copy of the appropriate code of behaviour
- Ensure that all
language is gender neutral and avoid derogatory language based on gender

- Play by the rules of
the game

form of violence
- Work hard for your
team - remember it is a team game
- Be positive and
encourage lesser players
- Treat all players
like you would like to be treated yourself

improving your skill levels
- Listen to your
coach's advice
- Watch and play as
much soccer as possible
- Avoid language that
is derogatory of race and gender
- Do not cheat your
opponents, yourself or the game
- Thank your parents
and coaches for helping
- Enjoy the game for
the game's sake
Spectators' Code of Conduct
- Remember that
children play organised soccer for fun
- Remember that they
are not small adults or miniature professionals
- Positive comments are
more motivational to children than negative ones
- Condemn the use of
violence in any form
- Encourage players to
play by the rules in a sporting manner
- Support the team
coach - remember, they are volunteers
- Do not swear on the
sideline or use language that is derogatory in race or gender
- Remember, children
will copy your actions, both positive and negative
- Respect referees and
other officials in the decisions that they make
