Under 11 Division 3
Final - 15/08/09 - Moorebank vs Fairfield Bulls
Tuesday night's training session was not good. The boys just didn't want to be there. The vibe, body language, call it what you want - it just wasn't there. Having come this far I think we all felt despondent. They weren't interested in doing what we wanted to do, so we turned it around and did what they wanted to do. That seemed to work a little bit, but the boys needed something to pep them back up again. (I have something in mind)
Thursday night their mood lifted immensely (pep up worked me thinks) also the boys were happy to see M.I.A.M. (Missing in Action Misevski) return to the fold. We were also eagerly anticipating the return of the Terminator. With their spirits high again, getting them to do what I wanted them to was easy !! The session went well and we covered everything we needed to head into this weeks game.
Into the game... it's time for the Matadors to step into the bull ring. It's hard to understand how much the kids feel the pressure of this game, knowing that its do or die to get into the Grand Final. We were apprehensive as we felt the Bulls weren't going to be easily beaten, and would give us a fight. And they did... at least for the first ten minutes. Thanks Phil for turning up.. thats when our luck changed !! It was just at this moment that "Christo" made a scurry towards the 18 yard box and pounded the ball at the goals. It hit the crossbar and the ball dropped down. Big Ben (that's your nickname now) was in the right place at the right time and headed it into the net. You could hear the crowd roar. Not long after there was infringement to the left of the 18 yard box and the Terminator got called up to take the free kick. Whooshka !! Off it goes !! The ball seemed to be going in anyway but it was a sure thing after deflecting off a Bull's head. What a grand entrance after 4 weeks off. Half time... 2-0... we can all breathe a little easier.
Do I sense their mojo returning... ??
Second half... The pace and intensity picked up even more than the first half (Yes, Phil is still watching...) I just hope that complacency doesn't set in here. It was easy to get two in, but it can be just as easy for the opponent to do the same. The Bulldozer today had a full tank of fuel and he was out on the field creating havoc. If it wasn't him it was the Road Runner. The whole mid-field was on fire. Sideshow Bob at times seemed to be in two places at once. Even the Enforcer who was a but under the weather, still managed to produce a strong game. Twinkle Toes, again, did what he had to do, and at least the Bozz got to touch the ball today without any stress.
The Bulls today seemend to attack mainly up the right hand side, maybe they thought there was a weakness there?? Have they forgotten the Assassin?? Cause they sure seemed to steer clear of the Gladiator. Yorkie again today was heavily marked, so a switch of the ball to M.I.A.M. was productive and dangerous for the Bulls. The one thing about or team is that when other teams try to shut out players, it only opens doors for other avenues. It was on this occasion that they dropped their guard which saw the Bulldozer put a nice ball out to Ramjet who calmly strolled through the defence and placed it into the goal. Phew, thats released the pressure valve.
Our fourth goal for the afternoon came off the boot of the M.I.A.M. I guess the Bulls didn't see him coming. It wasn't long after this that the whistle blew full time. I'm not sure what was louder - the roar from the boys, or the roar from the crowd. Well... into the Grand Final we go next week.
I'd like to thank the Bulls for a great game and sportsmanship on the day. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner.
FANTASTIC !!!!
What an achievement these kids have made. Back to back Minor Premiers and back to back Grand Finalists.
I'd also like to thank the numerous amount of committee members that took the time out to come and watch our game. Especially Phil, the Club President, who was constantly reminding us that he in fact was our good luck charm. Thanks again guys.
Thats it - see you next week.
